Fuckin Hell. From everything I’ve heard, they are actually dangerously slow, which makes me wonder how one could get enjoyment driving it. And yes, I get that there are others way to enjoy a car other than having it light your pants on fire from acceleration. But there’s a limit.

of course they did. They are very light, have less engine back there so have BETTER balance than a 911, handle better with decent tires. And when people can’t find a 911 for affordable prices, they look at the 912 and see a wonderful fun car for little money....till now.
Sort of how the 924 is looked at. cheap but good handling and easy maintenance you can do yourself. It’s a sporty car.

I’m wondering if this overheating of the classic Porsche market is going to have some sort of knock-on effect on Volkswagens at some point. Type 2s are already going for insane money, Karmann Ghias and Type 3s are creeping up, but are we also going to see even the lowly Beetle start to go crazy, for being the closest remaining thing to an air cooled Porsche that people can still access for reasonable money? Could we see $20,000 or $30,000 Beetles in the future?

I’ve got a buddy that’s almost done with a restoration on a 912 soft window targa. He also has another 911 he’s been working on for years. A few years back, he sold a 1983 sC for $18k, a year later, he easily could have gotten double, it seems.
I shoulda bought his ‘82 5 speed 928 that was pretty darn mint for $4k when he offered it to me.

Good Lord - early split and oval windows, I can understand, they’re getting rare and there weren’t as many made, comparatively, and 1967s, to a certain extent, since everybody wants those. But, Super Beetles? Really? Exactly how many pots did they swallow?
